SUMAYA
WIN KNEPP HIGH GOAL TROPHY
Seven Events, Knepp High Goal Trophy
NEWS RELEASE
25th July 2007
High goal polo’s new kids on the block Sumaya strode
to an emphatic 9-7 victory over Emerging in the recent final
of the 2007 Knepp High Goal Trophy.
Following in the esteemed footsteps Lora Piana (2006
winners), Sumaya were delighted to lift the first major trophy
of their high goal career.
‘The
Knepp High Goal Trophy is a great tournament and the perfect
preparation for the Gold Cup. Not only was the polo of the
highest standard, helped by the immaculate playing surface,
but the club was so accommodating and atmosphere very special
indeed. We look forward to defending the trophy next year’
commented Oussama Abhou Ghazale, Patron of Sumaya.
After taking a 3-0 lead in the first chukka, Sumaya
seemed to be running away with victory until a late surge from
Emerging saw them come to within 1 goal with 1 chukka to play.
However, as
Milo Fernadez-Araujo set up some fantastic plays in the dying
minutes, the
result always seemed inevitable in this very expansive and
exciting match.
Ramaur
played by Justo Saavedra won the Falcon Equine Feeds Best
Playing Pony Award and Milo Fernandez-Araujo was presented
with the Most Valuable Player Award by Casablanca Polo.
The Knepp High Goal Trophy was created by players’ and
patrons’ demand for a very relaxed but competitive
tournament to bridge the gap between the
Queens
Cup and Gold Cup in the heart of the high goal season. Seven
Events, the tournament promoter, saw this unique environment
as the perfect platform to give spectators unprecedented
access to the unique sport of high goal polo while raising the
bar in the level of hospitality offered in British polo.
Sven Hansen, Tournament Director, elaborates ‘The
concept for this tournament is simple - to bring together the
best polo teams, leading brands and unparalleled hospitality
in the height of the summer social season.
Knepp
Castle
is one of the most stunning settings for any event and to
marry this up with the country’s most exclusive and intimate
polo tournament has proven a huge success. We look forward to
growing the event’s select family of partners and continue
to welcome the
UK
’s foremost high goal teams for many years to come.
Congratulations to Sumaya on a well deserved victory’
Next
year’s Knepp High Goal Trophy will take place between 16th
and 22nd June 2008. For more details and to apply
